Uses For Egg Shells
First up is, over 30 things to do with eggshells from the Prairie Homestead. Personally, I like to crush my egg shells and add them to the compost pile. That way they make it back into my garden. Which brings us to the next link.
Composting With Chickens
Chickens love to dig through compost.
An article all about composting with chickens from backyardchickens.com. The bulk of my compost pile is made up of a combination of leaves and grass that I collect in the fall. Of course I add in the chicken litter from the coop. Kitchen food scraps top it all off.
On cold fall mornings, I sometimes see steam rising from the compost pile. This means that it is getting good and hot in the middle of the pile. Ideal conditions for decomposition. My chickens do love to dig in the compost pile. They end up knocking it down and mixing it up at the same time as they scratch through it. I have consider making a compost bin like this one to keep the chickens from knocking over my pile.
